Week 1 Recap

Preschool

This week we decked the halls with our first week of Special Delivery  where we take the time to celebrate the wonderful but often brushed over story of the birth of Jesus!

Week One

Memory Verse: “God has given a son to us.” Isaiah 9:6, NCV

Key Question: How do we know God loves us?

Bottom Line: God gave us Jesus.

Basic Truth: God loves me.

The Bottom Line: God Gave Us Jesus

Story: God Told Us He Would Give Us Jesus.

The Angel and Mary • Luke 1:26-33, 38, 46-49

Mary loved God with all her heart and knowing this God decided to make her the very first person to share the news of his gift to the world with! God sent an angel to talk to Mary….. now imagine just going about your day and an angel shows up to talk to you….. (show of hands) whos going to just start a conversation with them? Most people including myself would be terrified let alone Mary who was told she was going to have God’s son! He instructed her to name him Jesus and that he will be a gift for all. Mary though frightened by all she heard she loved God and trusted all that he wanted her to do, but what was so important about Jesus? God wanted to give us Jesus because without him none of us would be able to be with him. The greater thing is God never had to do this, he could have let us all chase God in the hopes we will let us in but in loving us he wanted us to have a way back to him.

Elementary

This week we began our Christmas series The Big Give: Think Outside the Box! where we are talking about Generosity: Making someone’s day by giving something away!

Week One

Key Question: What do you have to give? Kids don’t immediately know what they have to offer. They don’t have a lot of money, and may not have a lot of stuff either. Thankfully, generosity isn’t just about money and stuff. Kids will discover the heart of generosity and realize that they have more to give then they might have thought.

We start our look at generosity in 1 John 4:9-11 where we discover that generosity starts with God. Because God loved us so much, He sent Jesus to be our savior and make it possible for us to be with God forever.

Bottom Line: Because God gave, I can give. John goes on in this passage and writes, Dear friends since God loved us this much, we should also love one another, (NIrV). As kids respond to God’s generosity in their own life, we pray they will be generous with their family, friends, and neighbors.
